Rare Dragon Cuirassier enlisted helmet plate M1860

Hasenbos Militaria

Description

Very rare original helmet plate from a French Cuirassier helmet (Modèle 1858/1860), made in France around 1858–1865 and supplied to German state troops before Prussian unification.

These export variants are exceptionally scarce, especially those with the German motto “MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND”, which indicates that this plate was intended for cavalry units of one of the German principalities that purchased French helmets at the time (e.g. Hanover, Hesse, Saxony, smaller duchies).

The eagle has the typical French cuirassier style: powerful breast feathers, elegant wings, and the classic imperial crown. The quality of the brass, the detailing, and the expression are characteristic of early manufacture, much finer than later reproductions.
