Duits vrijwilligersschild POA

Hasenbos Militaria

Description

German WWII Volunteer Shield, "POA." This was worn by Russian volunteers in German service. In beautiful, original, unworn condition. The coat of arms adorned the uniform of the Russian Liberation Army, which was inspired by the German armed forces and formed in November 1944. Commanded by Lieutenant General Andrei Vlasov, a former Soviet Army general captured by the Germans in 1942, this unit prominently displayed the Cyrillic letters "POA," which stood for Russkia Osvoboditelnaia Armiia. The choice of a cross symbolized St. Andrew, the patron saint of Russia and an important emblem in the Tsarist tradition. Furthermore, the emblem incorporated the red, white, and blue colors of the pre-Soviet imperial flag. Placed on the upper left arm, it symbolized the wearer's identity and loyalty.
