Philips Squeeze Flashlight WW2

Hasenbos Militaria

Description

This original Dutch squeeze-light, type 7424 – 03, from the Second World War was developed by Philipskommando Kamp Vught. The squeeze-light earned its nickname from the sound it produced when operated.

A cat-like wailing sound. Due to the shortage of all kinds of raw materials and products, and the lack of batteries, people were forced to think creatively about the smallest items for our daily use.

Due to the blackout, having a light in the darkness had become a very important commodity. Philips had a clever solution for this in the form of the squeeze-light and flashlight that worked with manual operation. The squeeze-light was invented by Ir. L.J. Kalff. Although the squeeze-light was only patented in 1942, production already started in 1941.

Such compact hand lamps were also very useful within the Air Raid Protection Service and various military applications.

The lamp is executed in the characteristic metal housing with ribbed sides and a foldable squeeze handle.
