Dutch bicycle tax plate from 1936–1937.

This brass-colored tax plate bears the inscription “RIJWIEL BELASTING” (BICYCLE TAX) and the years 1936–1937. The original mounting holes are present on both sides.

These plates were formerly used as proof that the bicycle tax had been paid for the bicycle. The tax was mandatory for bicycle owners at the time. The plate had to be visibly attached to the bicycle and served as proof of inspection when paying the annual bicycle tax.

A beautiful and original piece of Dutch history and cycling culture from the 1930s.

The plate is in authentic, used condition, with signs of age, patina, discoloration, and traces of use appropriate for its age.
