Description

Original French National Guard belt plate, Model 1850, from the presidency of Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte (circa 1848–1852). Made of brass and rectangular in shape with rounded corners (approx. 6.7 x 6 cm). The front depicts an eagle with spread wings, resting on Jupiter's radiating thunderbolts, a typical Bonapartist symbol. The reverse has the original hook and bears the maker's mark “GOTTIAU”. The piece shows a beautiful old patina and normal signs of use consistent with its age.

France, period of the Second Republic / early Second Empire. In very good condition for a 19th-century military object.
