Description

This medal was awarded to Belgian or foreign citizens who volunteered to serve in the Belgian armed forces for six months. The obverse of this bronze medal depicts the heads of two volunteers, one wearing a headdress from 1830 (the year of Belgian independence) and the other a helmet from 1914. At the top is a royal crown resting on laurel branches. On the reverse, the dates "1914-1918" are in the center and the text "Voluntariis Patria Memor" is around the edge. The ribbon is dark blue.
