Original Dutch bicycle tax plate from 1937-1938. The plate is made of brass and clearly bears the text “RIJWIEL BELASTING” (BICYCLE TAX) and the years 1937-1938.

These plates served as proof that the bicycle tax for the bicycle had been paid. The plate had to be visibly attached to the bicycle, for example, near the handlebars. From 1933, one was also allowed to wear the plate visibly on clothing, as many plates were stolen from parked bicycles. 

Bicycle tax existed in the Netherlands from 1924 to 1941. The tax applied to the use of the bicycle, and the plate was replaced annually. 

It is in authentic used condition, with beautiful age patina, discoloration, and signs of wear.
