Description
Original Dutch bicycle tax plate from 1938-1939, made of brass-colored metal.
These plates were used as proof that the bicycle tax for a bicycle had been paid. In the Netherlands at that time, one had to pay tax for the ownership and use of a bicycle. The tax plate was then visibly attached to the bicycle.
This specimen bears the years 1938–1939 and the inscription "RIJWIEL BELASTING" (BICYCLE TAX). The original mounting holes are present on both sides.
The plate has a beautiful, authentic appearance with age patina, discolorations, and signs of use, appropriate for its age. The decorative design with the stylized wings also makes it a special piece of Dutch history.
