Description
Original merchant navy uniform cap, worn by staff of the Stoomvaart Maatschappij Nederland (SMN), the well-known Dutch shipping company that was active in international shipping from 1870, including routes to the Dutch East Indies.
The cap is made of dark blue to black fabric and features a shiny visor, a black chin strap with metal side buttons, and a gold-embroidered emblem with laurel branches and the initials SMN.
On the inside is the label of R. Deftermeijer N.V. Amsterdam.
