Description
Original brass Dutch Bicycle Tax Plate.
From 1937-1938.
The Netherlands reintroduced bicycle tax in 1924. Anyone riding a bicycle on public roads had to pay tax for it. The plate served as proof that the tax for that bicycle had been paid.
The plate was normally attached to the bicycle, near the handlebars. From the 1930s onwards, due to theft, it could also be worn on clothing.
