Hasenbos Militaria

Description

Uruguayan Navy officer's cap from WWII, size 56. In used condition. The Uruguayan Navy cooperated with the Royal Navy. In 1939, during the Battle of the Rio de la Plata, the famous German Heavy Cruiser Admiral Graf Spee was severely damaged and surrounded by Royal Navy ships. As a result, the German cruiser was scuttled by its own crew. Therefore, no information was found. The German crew was considered drowning, and a freighter transported the crew to Buenos Aires (Brazil). Captain Langsdorff pleaded with the authorities that his crew were drowning, and as a compromise, the crew members were placed with German families. On December 20, Langsdorff symbolically laid himself on the flag of the Graf Spee in his hotel room and shot himself in the head with his service weapon.
